Veganism on the rise in the UK

According to a survey conducted by The Vegan Society in 2020, there are an estimated 600,000 vegans in the UK, which is approximately 1.16% of the population. This is a significant increase from the 150,000 vegans reported in 2014. The same survey also found that an additional 1.8 million people in the UK are interested in going vegan.

Here are some additional statistics related to veganism in the UK:

• In 2020, vegan food sales in the UK grew by 40% to reach £816 million, according to data from Nielsen.

• The number of vegan food products available in UK supermarkets increased by 92% between 2018 and 2020, according to The Vegan Society.

• Veganuary, a campaign that encourages people to try veganism in January, reported a record-breaking 582,538 participants worldwide in 2021, with over 120,000 of those participants coming from the UK.

• According to a survey by Ipsos MORI, 39% of UK adults have tried a plant-based diet, with 14% having tried it in the past year.

• The number of vegan restaurants in the UK has more than doubled in the past two years, from 152 in 2018 to 388 in 2020, according to The Vegan Society.
